Mater Paneer
Mater Paneer recipe is almost popular Indian Curry dish. It is made with mater which is called in English peas and paneer means cottage cheese. This recipe hails from the versatile North Indian cuisine that has many different variations.
I have always been a huge fan of paneer and paneer-based recipes. Thats why I always used to try different type of paneer dishes. I used to try to make paneer at home because I don't prefer to buy paneer from market. This dish goes with poori and roti. So, you can enjoy this with your family.
But all of that being said this family recipe is not a restaurant style dish. It tastes absolutely delicious but is much simple and lends more of a comforting and satisfying feels.
All we know about health benefits of paneer. It is rich in protein and calcium. It contains vitamin D which helps to prevent breast cancer. The nutrients packed in the paneer help to build a strong immunity system. Paneer has magnesium and phosphorus. It is important for heart health as well as for muscles and nerves. It packs healthy fats and low carbohydrates.
Peas are loaded with fiber. which help to regulate the way you digest starches. It helps to control blood sugar level.
- 250 gm paneer
- 200 gm mater
- 1 cup onion puree
- 1 cup tomato puree
- 1tsp chopped coriander leaves
- 2 tsp kasuri methi
- 1tsp fresh cream
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 piece cinnamon stick
- 1 black cardamom
- 1 green cardamom
- 1 clove
- 1tsp turmeric powder
- 1tsp kashmiri red chili powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp garam masala
- Salt to taste
- Oil to cook
Recipe
- Add all the whole spices like cumin seeds, cinnamon stick, black cardamom, green cardamom and clove then saute.
- Add onion puree and cook until golden brown.
- Now put tomato puree and cook on medium flame until oil starts to separate.
- At this stage put all the spices like turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, garam masala, and salt then give a nice mix.
- Now add water as required and cook for one minute.
- Add boiled mater and cook for some time.
- Finally add paneer cubes and give a nice mix or simmer on a low flame for a min or until the paneer cubes are fully cooked but don't overcook as the paneer will become dense and hard.
- Sprinkle some chopped coriander leaves.
- Serve it.

Advice
- I have used boiled peas, if u prefer to use fresh peas, you can do so by using a pressure cooker with the same method.
- Always use plain homemade paneer to avoid extra calories.
- You can try cashew paste instead of fresh cream.
- Choose the spices according to your requirements.
